    Calls for proposals during the 1st term 2024

    1. Period of Use

    From April to the end of July 2024.

    2. Deadline for Proposal Submission

    March 4(Mon.) 12:00 noon, 2024
    *At least two weeks are needed for the experiment after acceptance of the proposal.

    3. Category and Charge

    See "User Guide" below

    4. Available Measurements

    • XAFS(X-ray absorption fine structure)
    • SAXS (Small-angle X-ray scattering)

    5. Notification

    Your proposal is to be checked in the viewpoint of scientific interest, feasibility, safety, etc.
    Priority order may not give requested experiment day(s) to your proposal during that term.
    A project reader is to be notified on the proposal status.

    6. Proposal Submission

    Before deadline, submit your proposal via the website (URL: http://rcsla.kyushu-u.ac.jp/application/ ). Registration procedure is needed for the first time proposal.

    7. Other Restrictions

    ‘Radiation Worker Application Form’ should be submitted at least 10 days before your experiment day at SAGA-LS.
    Take it into account that its confirmation at your own facility might take a long time.
    Please prepare the form enough to be in time for your experiment.

  • User Guide

    User measurements are available on the following schedule while SAGA-LS operation is ON.

    Weekly and Daily operation schedule

     Category   Charge
    Public For academic or public institution. The results should be open to the public later. 52,000 JPY/day
    Collaborative For promoting industry/academia/government collaboration. No restriction is present as far as the research obeys Japanese and regional rules.  260,000 JPY/day

    *Charge includes 10% consumption tax.
    *Minimum unit is 1 day long.
    *Those who belong to Kyushu University can pay the charge with six types of budgets (precise names are not shown here).
    However in March, available budgets are restricted to two types. Please confirm the office before your measurement.

  • 1. Application for Beamline Experiment

    An application form should be sent via the website (URL: http://rcsla.kyushu-u.ac.jp/application/ ). Registration procedure is needed for the first time proposal.

    2. Result of Proposal

    Your proposal is to be checked in the viewpoint of scientific interest, feasibility, safety, etc.
    Priority order may not give requested experiment day(s) to your proposal during that term.

    3. Schedule Adjustment

    In the case that the proposal is accepted, the experiment schedule is adjusted based on the beamline schedule and requested date.
    The date is notified to the leader of the experiment.

    4. Documents Submission

    Following documents should be submitted to the office of RCSLA or SAGA-LS before deadline. (depending on a document)

    ■ Documents to RCSLA office, Kyushu University

    1. 1. Experimental plan (format: kusc#2)
      Deadline: 14 days before the first day of experiment

      Send the file to our office via the website (URL: http://rcsla.kyushu-u.ac.jp/application/ ).
      If you need to use the guest house at SAGA-LS, please provide the necessary information in your document of Experimental plan.

    2. 2. Payment confirmation letter
      Deadline: 7 days before the first day of experiment

      Send to:Research Center for Synchrotron Light Applications, 6-1 Kasugakoen, Kasuga, Fukuoka, 816-8505 Japan.

    ■ Documents to SAGA-LS

    Send to:User Office of SAGA-LS, 8-7 Yayoigaoka, Tosu-shi, Saga, 841-0005, Japan.

    1. 1. Radiation Worker Application Form
        All members joining the experiment should submit at least 10 days before the first day of experiment.

    5. Procedure on Experiment Day

    Take the educational video program if needed (30 min, necessary when the use is the first time since last April 1).
    Receive an access card and a glass dosimeter at the user support section on the 2nd floor at SAGA-LS.

    Proceed your experiment following the direction of beamline staff.

    [After the experiment]

    Return the access card and the dosimeter to the original place.
    If the office is closed, return them to the box settled near the main exit gate.
    All chemicals, samples must be brought back.

    6. Report Submission

    The leader should submit a report (format: KUSC#3) to RCSLA office via the web system within 30 days after an experiment.
    When the results are published, show that the measurements are done at Kyushu-u beamline with given project number.
    Following is an example showing them in the acknowledgement part.
    (A part of/Parts of) the XAFS (and SAXS) experiments were performed at Kyushu University Beamline (SAGA-LS /BL06) with the proposal of No. XXXX.
